World Soil Day at Chickpeace: Discover the Life Beneath Our Feet

Friday, December 5, 2025 | 10:00am – 12:00pm | Drop-In Event

Soil is alive — and on World Soil Day, we’re celebrating that living ecosystem in a way you can actually see!

Join Chickpeace Refillery and The Box of Life for a hands-on exploration of the microscopic world that keeps our planet thriving. Melissa Rodgers, soon-to-be Certified Soil Food Web Lab Technician, will be on-site at Chickpeace (103-1851 Kirschner Rd Kelowna) with a microscope connected to a live screen, giving you a close-up look at the bustling community of life in just a pinch of soil.

Watch as bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and nematodes come to life on the screen — the unseen heroes that build healthy soil, support plant growth, and sustain our environment. Learn how composting and vermicomposting nurture these vital organisms and why they’re essential for a balanced ecosystem.

This event is part of the United Nations’ World Soil Day celebration — a global call to protect one of Earth’s most valuable and overlooked resources. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with your community, explore sustainable living options at Chickpeace, and discover how The Box of Life is helping homes and schools embrace composting.

Drop by anytime during the 2-hour event to peer through the microscope and uncover the vibrant, hidden world beneath your feet — where healthy soil begins, and the well-being of our food, planet, and ourselves takes root.
